Communicating in any language consists of progressing through three proficiency levels. Each level includes three packages (A, B, C) of 16 hours of instruction.
1A – This course is designed for students who have not encountered the target language before as well as for students that do not use the Roman alphabet. The first 16-hour course includes the phonetics, simple grammar, everyday and work related vocabulary.
1B – This course is designed for students with very little previous exposure to the language. They can use and recognize only common words, greetings, and expressions. They do not have any grammatical knowledge. The second 16-hour course includes present tense, vocabulary topics such as time, food, clothing, and daily work activities.
1C – This course is designed for students who can talk about interests and everyday activities and use basic grammatical constructions. They can understand simple messages, instructions, and directions. The third 16-hour course includes the introduction of different tenses such as preterit, imperfect, and future. It introduces pronouns and imperatives. Themes include travel, dining out, opinions, and feelings.
2A – This course is designed for students with basic situational comprehension but limited creative capacity. They can ask and answer questions about familiar topics and discuss past and future activities. This 16-hour course reinforces and expands grammar and themes of the previous courses through practical exercises.
2B – This course is designed for students who can converse easily on everyday matters but have a limited range of style and expression. They can read and write fluently about familiar topics. This 16-hour course reviews the tenses already taught and introduces subjunctive and perfect tenses. Classes are conducted exclusively in the target language to improve conversational ability.
2C - This course is designed for students with good comprehension of most non-specialized texts, and a high level of grammatical competence. They can express and support their points of view with confidence. This 16-hour course prepares students for the next level of proficiency through practical exercise stressing creative usage of vocabulary and grammar. Classes are conducted exclusively in the target language to improve conversational ability.
